The Palm Pre is not coming to Asia Pacific anytime soon

Palm Pre

Well, I've gotten confirmation of the rumours that I didn't want to hear, from Palm themselves.

I had spent a part of last week collecting names and info of people within Palm, and sent off a few e-mails.

I got a response to the one I sent to Jon from what seems like an assistant, or a proxy, who said (quoted with permission):

"At this moment in time, we do not yet have any plans to launch the Palm Pre or any of our new WebOS products in Asia Pacific. Our focus right now is to establish a strong presence in North America and Europe. However, we do not discount the possibility of offering this new range of products at a later date."

"It is therefore not a rumor that Palm has significantly reduced its presence in the region to one of operational support to our existing customers requiring our in-warranty services and technical support for our sold products."

And then:

"... I implore you to understand that what Palm is doing right now is to ensure our survivability in this current economic situation and competition."

"I assure you Jason that our products will come to this region one day but it won’t be that soon."

I have to say, I agree with the logic here, and don't want Palm to completely go under either... still, a sad day.

I guess it's import time.
